Pineda Was in Final Year of His Contract

Atlanta United has announced that they have parted ways with head coach Gonzalo Pineda. The 41-year-old former Mexico international was in the final year of his three-and-a-half-year contract.

Pineda was hired by Atlanta United in August 2021 after serving as an assistant coach with the Seattle Sounders. He led the team to a 57-34-32 record in all competitions, including a run to the Eastern Conference final in his first season.

However, Atlanta United struggled under Pineda in 2023, finishing with a 10-22-8 record and missing the playoffs. The team also struggled defensively, conceding a league-high 74 goals.

Pineda's departure comes as Atlanta United is in the midst of a rebuild. The team has traded away several key players, including Josef Martinez and Ezequiel Barco, and is looking to add younger, more dynamic talent.

Atlanta United is expected to begin their search for a new head coach immediately.
