How California's Electors are Chosen
California has 54 electors, the most of any state. These electors are chosen by the state's voters in the presidential election. The candidate who wins the most votes in California wins all of the state's electoral votes.
How California's Electors Vote
The electors pledged to the winning candidate meet in Sacramento in December to cast their votes for president and vice president. These votes go towards electing the president and vice president of the United States.
California's Voting History
Democrats have carried California in the last seven presidential elections, from 1992 through 2016. In 2020, Joe Biden won 55 electoral votes in California, while Donald Trump won 0 electoral votes. Biden also won the popular vote in California, with 63.5% of the vote to Trump's 34.3%.
